"God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth"
(John 4:25).
Have you ever wondered if our modern society knows anything of a religion outside of the culture of big business?
Is it possible for you to find a group of people who exist, as a church, for a
purpose other than recreational, social, or political ends?
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if you could be part of a group of people who are truly
committed, not just in word but in practice and life, to the principles and
teachings of the Bible?
The Myrtle Grove Church of Christ exists to evangelize and encourage. You can be
a part of a family that will hold you in high esteem, appreciate your talents,
and most importantly, help you know your Creator.
Here is what you can expect when you visit:
Singing
You can expect songs of praise. We praise God for all that He is by singing. To do so is to follow the
example of our Lord. It is one means by which He identifies with us.
Hebrews 2:11-12, “. . .He [Jesus] is not ashamed to call them brethren, saying,
‘I will proclaim Thy name to my brethren; in the midst of the congregation I
will sing Thy praises.’”
James 5:13, "...Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praises."
Prayer
You can expect prayer.
We worship God, as the Almighty, through prayer. Again, we are following the
example of Jesus and the early church in acknowledging their dependence upon God
as their Father and their commitment to do His will.
“My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; yet not as I will, but
as Thou wilt” (Matthew 26:39). “So Peter was kept in the prison, but prayer for
him was being made fervently by the church to God” (Acts 12:5).
Teaching
You can expect to receive applicable teaching.
We honor God in our worship by speaking from His word (in our Bible classes and
preaching) in order to glorify Him.
“Whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who
serves by the strength that God supplies-in order that in everything God may be
glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and
ever. Amen.” (I Peter 4:11 - NIV).
Communion
You can expect communion to be offered. We reverence God, as our Redeemer, by
partaking of the Lord’s Supper . When we do this, we are remembering the price
Jesus paid for our redemption.
“For as often as ye eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s
death until He comes” (I Corinthians 11:26).
Giving
You can expect time to be set aside for the members to contribute.
We magnify God, as Creator, in our worship by giving monetarily. We
do this neither grudgingly, nor of necessity but willingly, for His people
recognize the
“earth is the Lord’s and all it contains” and “God loves a cheerful giver” (I
Corinthians 10:26; 2 Corinthians 9:7).
Thus, we read the example from the apostle Paul, “On the first day of every week
let each one of you put aside and save, as he may prosper. . .” (I Corinthians
16:2).
Simply Christians
In doing all these things we are seeking to imitate the practice of the early
Christians in the New Testament. For we read, “they devoted themselves to the
apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to
prayer” (Acts 2:42 NIV).
